Call for Papers

2018 MLG Institute for Culture and Society, Albany NY June 18-22

31st Oct 2017

The Marxist Literary Group is pleased to circulate the Call for Proposals for its 2018 Institute for Culture and Society, to be be hosted on the University at Albany, SUNY campus, June 18-22 2018.  This Institute’s theme will be Marx and the Problem of Politics, though as always we welcome proposals on all aspects of Marxist thought.  We encourage all of you to submit proposals and join us in Albany next summer.

We have compiled a list of “suggested readings,” from which we hope a number of more specific reading group proposals will emerge.  Based on suggestions from last summer’s Institute, texts from Marx, Lenin, Kollontai, Mao, and Fanon are linked from the website with the aim that participants might carve out time for reading during the academic year rather than cramming in the few weeks before the Institute. Once reading group proposals have been accepted, we’ll post more narrowly focused selections and topics.

More details on housing and logistics will be forthcoming as we get closer to the Institute.  For now, please save the date, review and share the CFP, begin working through the suggested readings, and consider options for possible papers, roundtables, reading groups, or other proposals.  We have established this email address–MLGICS.2018@gmail.com–to coordinate communications about the Institute.  Don’t hesitate to contact us here if we can be of any help.  Proposals are due by February 15, 2018; we will, of course, send reminders in advance of the deadline.

For any unable to click on the links above, you can find the CFP and Suggested Readings online at http://www.marxistliterary.org/mlg-ics/
