We are delighted to announce the creation of a Centre for Palestine Studies at
the London Middle East Institute. The new Centre will be launched at SOAS on
Thursday 1 March with an inaugural event to which you are warmly invited.
This initiative brings together the considerable academic expertise on
Palestine at
SOAS, a body of scholarship with deep roots and a long history. At its
inception,
the Centre’s membership draws on about 35 academics working at SOAS across a
wide range of disciplines, ensuring that SOAS has one of the world’s most unique
concentrations of academic specialism on the country.
Gilbert Achcar, Professor of Development Studies and International
Relations, will be
Chair of the Centre.
The Centre will be launched at a public event on 1st March from 6pm to
9pm in the
Brunei Gallery Lecture Theatre. Please join us to hear speakers who
will include Ilan
Pappé, Karma Nablusi, Gilbert Achcar and Hassan Hakimian (6:00-7:30pm) and to
celebrate the launch of the Centre at a reception afterwards (7:30pm onwards).
The event is free; there is no need to register. Our website will be
going live soon.
Please forward this e-mail to others who might be interested in
attending the launch.
